We are the only performance training clinic in Orange County to use an unweighted treadmill to focus on neurologic adaptations for greater explosiveness and body control.  Muscular adaptations take about 6-8 weeks to become obvious, but you can see dramatic improvements in quickness from neurological adaptations in just 3-4 weeks.

Muscular Adaptations

Our exercise program is probably very different from anything you have seen before.  Certainly we use many common techniques such as dumbbells and weight-lifting, elastic bands and isometrics, plyometrics and ground-based exercises and stability balls and core strengthening.  While all of these are valuable, some of the biggest gains come from vibration training. 

Vibration training is essential to the success of our program.  Standing on a vibrating platform causes muscles to respond involuntarily.  500 vibrations = 500 muscle responses.  The body adapts to the stress we put on it.  Vibration adds more variables for the body to respond to.  Any exercise done on vibration will intensify the exercise.  We warm-up on vibration, do plyos on vibration, lift weights on vibration and do our warm down and recovery on vibration.  Benefits include:

Neurologic Adaptations

In addition to proprioception training (which all good performance trainers use), we use overspeed training to achieve neuro adaptations that are not possible in any other training method.  We have an unweighting device over a high speed treadmill.  The athletes wear a vest suspended overhead allowing the trainer to unweight the athlete 10-30% of their body weight.  This keeps athletes completely safe while they train at high speeds.  Athletes are able to move in all directions: forward, backward and laterally. 

When the athlete is unweighted 30%, they require less force into the deck of the treadmill to propel themselves up and forward so their foot remains on the deck for less time.  This means they are able to increase the rate of turnover and they run faster.  Once we get their rate of turnover up, we begin to slowly reweight them and they are able to maintain a higher rate of turnover.  Athletes improve in first step quickness, top speed, lateral mobility, balance, agility and athleticism.

As a college football player I needed to get bigger and more explosive.  Before I came to the clinic, I was 6’6” and 242 lbs.  After 16 sessions, I gained nearly 30 pounds.  I feel more agile and more explosive with better balance and body control.  I also gained 6.5 inches on my vertical leap!
